  1. Erin Grant
    August 26, 2009 at 4:04 pm

My name is Erin Grant and I am a junior.

I was born in Alexandria, Virginia and my family moved to Omaha, Nebraska when I was 5 years old. I attended elementary, middle, and high schools all in Omaha.

I came to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln initially for the fashion journalism program. I have now flipped my major to journalism fashion.

What is your major? I am a News Editorial major.

Career Goals? Hopefully to work for fashion magazine as a writer and eventually an editor. I would also love to do public relations as well.

Why are you taking this course (besides the fact it is required)? What do you hope to get out of it? I am taking this class so I can have a better understanding of the AP style. I would also like to be more critical of my writing and of others as well.

Outside interests, hobbies, avocations, things you are passionate about? I know you hear it all the time from girls my age but clothes are really something I am passionate about. To me fashion is more about the artistic side of it all rather than something that’s in one season and out the next. I also have a love for baseball, especially for the Boston Red Sox. Music is also something that I truly love.

Tell me one interesting or surprising thing about you – something that makes you unique. I have been to every state on the East Coast that touches the Atlantic Ocean. I also have been to every state in New England. I can touch my tongue to my nose as well.

Are you the first person in your family to attend a university? No.

On a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being top-notch, how would you rate your knowledge of grammar, punctuation and AP style? Grammar and punctuation would be an 8. AP style would unfortunately have to be a 6.

What books are you reading or have read in the past three months? I read “One Fifth Avenue” by Candace Bushnell. I also read “L.A. Candy” by Lauren Conrad. I plan on reading “The Last Lecture” by the end of this year.

What magazines, newspapers and news Web sites do you read regularly? Usually fashion magazines and Us Weekly. Newspapers I usually read the Omaha World Herald, New York Times, and USA Today. I look at New York Times website most of the time for news.

What is your favorite Web site? Facebook seems to be the one I visit the most. As well as First National Bank. My favorite website is probably yahoo.com

Do you blog? No I do not. I do like reading them though!

Do you have any media/communication experience? If so, what? I was a writer for my high school newspaper at Millard West. I also worked as a merchandising and public relations intern in the summer of 2008 for the Omaha Royals.

Are you pursuing a media related internship or job at this time? Not at the moment. I do plan on applying for the Fashion Institute of Technology internship program this fall.

Do you have an updated resume in your files? Yes I do. Used it a lot this summer actually.

I came to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln because I have a lot friends that go to school in Lincoln. I am a huge Husker fan, as well as almost everyone else in my family.

My major is Secondary Education-Language Arts.

In the future, I hope to be teaching high school English and Journalism, as well as coaching girl’s basketball.

On a scale from 1 to 10, I would rate my knowledge of grammar and punctuation at about a 7 and AP style at about a 3.

I have read several Jodi Picoult books in the past couple months, and I just started reading “Eclipse” in the “Twilight” series. I am not into the vampire books and movies as much as some people are, but I feel like I should read the final two books in the series because I have already read the first two.

I read Cosmopolitan or gossip magazines. The newspapers that I read regularly are the Daily Nebraskan, the Journal Star and sometimes the Omaha World Herald. I also look at the New York Times and MSN websites for news.

My name is Chelsea Coli and credit wise I am a junior, but this is my fourth year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I have three semesters left. I’m from Albany, New York and moved here solely for school. UNL has one of the best journalism programs in the nation. I am a News and Editorial major. My career goals include working for a large magazine like Cosmopolitan. I hope that this course will help me become a better writer through editing. I don’t usually take much time to edit, so I hope that this course will change that. My interests include shopping, going to movies and hanging out with friends but one of my biggest passions is traveling. I’ve been out of the United States to places like Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. One thing that makes me unique is that one of my biggest fears is getting food stuck in my teeth. I will avoid foods I have to bite, or I will cut them up or use my back teeth as opposed to my front teeth to eat them. I avoid some foods that I think have a potential of becoming stuck. Some of these foods include corn, apples, meat, popcorn, pineapple and anything with parsley or other small green specks in it. No I’m not the first. My sister went to the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. I would rate myself a six. I can spot some mistakes but I really don’t trust myself to catch every mistake, or to make the right correction. I’m not currently reading any books. In the last three months I’ve read “Incident at Twenty Mile” by Trevanian, and it is my favorite book. I’m a stereotypical girl and probably read Cosmo the most but also read The Lincoln Journal Star. My favorite Web site is facebook.com. No I do not blog and I don’t have any media/communication experience. I’m not currently in an internship but I would like to find one for the summer. I made my resume last year, but not much has changed.
