McCain makes comeback or Obama makes history? Your turn to find the best Election headline

Next week, papers across the country will carry the same story on Page 1 – the results of the presidential election.  In 2000, newspapers struggled to write a headline on the election story because the results were unclear. In fact, the race between Bush and Gore kept flip-flopping.  Hopefully, we’ll know by the time we pick up Wednesday morning’s papers or sign on to Web sites, who the next president will be. Your task: Which newspaper did the best job of selling/telling the story with its  headline on Page 1? Read this handout from Merlin Mann, a Texas professor, to refresh your memory on how to write good headlines. Your assignment for next week’s blog:  Tell me which paper or news Web site had the best headline on the presidential election story and why. To complete this assignment, you will need to go to the Newseum Web site on Wednesday while Nov. 5 editions are posted. If you wait until Thursday, you may not be able to find the front pages.  This assignment is due at the beginning of your labs next week (Nov. 5-7). I recognize this doesn’t give the Wednesday lab folks much time (essentially you must do the assignment Wednesday morning), but obviously this is an unusual circumstance. Post your favorite Election results headline and tell me why you liked it in the comment section of your lab below.
